Michelle Mize is a shining example of the local/Bakersfield girl made good. She attended local schools, including West High School, and finally, Cal State University Bakersfield. Her first “real” job was for the Chamber of Commerce where Michelle embarked on a career in Public Relations. She also worked for local advertising firms, Medvin & Bailargeon, Griffin Communications, and finally joined with Patti Houchin to form Houchin & Mize Advertising. After Patti retired from the advertising business, Michelle took the solo road, renaming the company “The Mize Agency”. The changes didn’t stop there. Michelle saw a growing need for multicultural marketing, and with trademark enthusiasm, she opened MediaConceptos.
Upon the wall in Michelle’s office, a row of pewter letters on the wall spell out the word “inspire”. It’s not just a feel good phrase on the wall. She’s gone to great pains to create a pleasant and energetic work environment that attracts great minds, and gives them the room to create and succeed. Michelle remembers the Bakersfield community that encouraged her successes and gives back every chance she gets. She’s currently a member of Rotary West, Laurelglen Bible Church and is active at each of her children’s schools and in their activities. She’s also been involved in many local organizations, including the Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce, Kern County Ad Club, Cal State Roadrunner Club, United Way and Youth for Christ. Michelle’s multi-tasking abilities are well known both in the office and at home. She’s been married to Patrick for many years, and has three wonderful children - Madison, Morgan, and Maguire. Her family is her inspiration and support.
